Turkey dinner

As we all know, turkeys go on sale around Thanksgiving.  So we always buy 2-4 turkeys to store in our deep freezer.  Turkey is so delicious and we like to enjoy it more than once a year.  So, we decided to cook a turkey dinner last night.  We don't go to extremes because it's just us 5.  So just the basic yummy accompaniments - mashed potatoes with gravy, corn and stuffing.  The kids were very interested and confused on why we were having turkey when it wasn't Thanksgiving.  We told them that there is more than one day to sit down and be thankful for everything in our lives.  In fact, everyday you should say something that you are thankful for.

As our turkey is filling our house with it's wonderful aroma I am overcome with a feeling.  A feeling of completeness, love, abundance and hunger.  Mike and I are busy in the kitchen completing this meal.  We pull the turkey out and Mike begins to carve.  The minute Ian hears the electric knife (which he assumes is some sort of tool) he immediately grabs a chair and pulls himself up to the counter so he can watch his daddy use this "tool".

Mike is examining this delightful bird and is noticing it looks a little funny.  The dark meat is on the top.  So we begin to question if it's an actual turkey or some surprise turkey stuffed with something.  After a few minutes of deliberating what is up (or down) with this turkey we unanimously come to the conclusion that we have cooked the turkey upside down.  Now, before I think that we are totally lame for making such a silly mistake after the numerous turkeys we have cooked over the last 11 years together; we eat a sample of this upside turkey cooking extravaganza.  It was the most moist turkey breast either one of us has ever tasted.  Why - we ask ourselves?  Because the breast portion has been cooking for the 4 1/2 hours in a big bag of its own juices.  I can only repeat what our children said during the taste test - This is scrumdidiliumptious!!!
